Capitolo 9 – Parte Prima

Attivita` con i ragazzi di strada

Da Marzo 2016, oltre alle regolari attivita` di doposcuola con i ragazzi che stanno facendo il percorso di riabilitazione, abbiamo iniziato delle attivita` dedicate a quei bambini e ragazzi che vivono ancora in strada. In mattinata il centro apre i cancelli alle 9 per accogliere questi ragazzi che hanno la possibilta` di farsi una doccia, mettere dei vestiti puliti, fare colazione e avere un paio d’ore di giochi, condivisioni e riflessioni guidati dai nostri youth officers. A questo segue il pranzo preparato e consumato insieme. Queste mezze giornate hanno lo scopo di avvicinare i ragazzi al centro, vincere la loro diffidenza, portarli a fidarsi di noi e ricordargli che hanno un’alternativa al di la` della strada, nella speranza che prendano la decisione di intraprendere la riabilitazione. Questa iniziativa sta dando buoni risultati e gia` due di loro hanno abbandonato la strada e vivono al centro Kikora che al momento conta 4 ospiti.
Lo staff

Mentre io sono tornata in Italia per alcuni mesi, il nostro staff composto da 7 persone, lavora sodo per portare avanti tutte le attivita`. Il lavoro e` tanto ma stanno davvero facendo un ottimo lavoro a coordinare tutto. Fanno delle riunioni settimanali per discutere i progressi del progetto, alle quali io vengo coinvolta tramite registrazioni audio e comunicazioni. La tecnologia ci permette di rimanere constantemente in contatto cosi` posso dare un po` di sostegno nonostante la distanza. Nel frattempo anche qui in Italia il lavoro non manca: eventi da organizzare, persone da incontrare e poi trovare il tempo per pensare e pianificare i prossimi interventi e soprattutto chiedersi sempre come possiamo migliorare quello che facciamo.
Lotteria

Anche quest’anno e` stata organizzata una mega lotteria a favore di Kikora dalle associazioni Karibu Onlus di Scorze` e AVI Onlus di Montebelluna, la cui estrazione si e` svolta il 26 giugno durante la bellissima Festa dei Popoli di Karibu a Scorze` (VE). Questa lotteria sia l’anno scorso che quest’anno ha rappresentato la principale fonte di sostentamento di tutto il progetto, insieme alle donazioni private e alle adozioni a distanza…in poche parole tutto quello che facciamo e` fatto grazie a tutti voi! Per questo vorrei rinnovare i miei ringraziamenti a tutti quelli che ci sostengono tramite delle donazioni o delle adozioni a distanza, a tutti quelli che hanno organizzato la lotteria ma anche a tutti quelli che ne hanno comprato e venduti i biglietti. Alcuni hanno avuto anche la fortuna di vincere un premio, molti altri no, ma voglio ricordarvi che il premio in palio era molto piu` grande di quelli scritti sul retro del biglietto, perche` il sorriso di questi bambini lo stiamo vincendo tutti insieme, giorno dopo giorno!
Questi sono solo alcuni degli aggiornamenti su Kikora…gli altri arriveranno nei prossimi giorni con le altre Parti del capitolo 9…brevi articoli, perfetti da leggere mentre ci si rilassa sotto l’ombrellone!

Street children activities

Since March 2016, besides the regular afterschool activities for the children who are undergoing the rehabilitation, we have started some different activities to address those children who are still living in the street. In the morning the centre opens the gate at 9 am to welcome the street children who will have the possibility to take a shower, put some clean clothes, have breakfast and had a couple of hours of games, sharing and discussion guided by our youth officers. Afterwards they have lunch that is prepared and consumed together. These mornings have the aim to bring the street children closer to the centre, win their fear, let them trust us and remind them that they have an alternative rather than the street, hoping that they will decide to start with us the rehabilitation process. This program is giving very good results and already two more children have abandoned the street and are living in the centre that is now hosting 4 guests.
The staff

While I came back to Italy for some months, our staff made of 7 members, is working hard to continue all the activities. There is a lot of work to do but they are managing to do a great job! Every week they do a staff meeting to discuss the best way to go on and they involve me in these meeting through recordings and constant communication. Technology allows us to keep constantly in touch so I can still give them some support from a distance. In the meanwhile also here in Italy there is a lot of work to do: organizing events for fundraising and awareness, meeting people, building network and finding the time to think and plan for the next steps and most important to wonder how we can improve our job.
Lottery

Also this year a great lottery to support Kikora has been organized by the associations Karibu Onlus Scorze` and AVI of Montebelluna. The final extraction was done on the 26th of June during the amazing annual feast “Festa dei Popoli” of Karibu in Scorze` (VE). Both last year and this year, this lottery has represented the main source of income for the whole project, together with the private donations and the children sponsorship…So to say it easily all what we have done is because of all of you! For this reason I would like to thank again all those who support us with donations and sponsorship, all those who organized the lottery as well as those who sold and bought the tickets. Some were lucky to win some prizes, many others weren’t, but I want to remind you that the real prize was much bigger than all those written in the back of the ticket, because is the smile of these children that we are wining every day, all of us together!
